Things to see and do - Ullapool accommodation

Hill walking, fishing, rock climbing, sailing, kayaking , birdwatching.......Achiltibuie has it all.

The stunning mountains of Stac Pollaidh, Suilven, Canisp, Quinag and An Teallach are all within easy reach for the hillwalker or climber. If you prefer, there are numerous interesting coastal walks, such as the Postman’s Path or Fox Point.

All around you find interesting flora and varied wildlife including red deer, eagles, buzzards, ptarmigan, red shanks, grey seals and if you are lucky, dolphins and porpoises enjoying the crystal clear waters. You can often see red deer in the fields below the chalet and buzzards hovering on the breeze.

Brown trout fishing and sea angling are available and a cruise to the Summer Isles is a must. You can take the boat from the Badentarbert Pier in Achiltibuie ( www.summerisles-seatours.co.uk), or from Ullapool. There is also excellent sailing and sea kayaking, the sailing school on Tanera offering a range of courses for all levels ( www.summer-isles.com).

Enjoy the sandy beaches dotted along the coast, the best known being the stunning expanse of sand and dunes at Achnahaird.

If you want to explore the surrounding area, you can head back to Ullapool with all its amenities, or north into Sutherland, along the beautiful single track road through the Inverpolly Nature Reserve to Inverkirkaig and fishing village of Lochinver; or continue further into the breathtaking wilderness of Highland Scotland.

In the village there are two well-stocked grocery stores, post office , craft shops and a smokehouse. The Achiltibuie Garden www.thehydroponicum.com is well worth a visit for local produce and Achiltibuie Stores www.achiltibuie stores.com offers a grocery delivery service for your arrival.

For eating out, there is the Summer Isles Hotel restaurant or Bar, The Fuaran bar in Altandhu or the Piping School Cafe. Regular music and arts events, including ceilidh dances, are held throughout the year. Check www.coigach .com for up to date information on the area and what’s on.
